ORIGINAL POST:
The Upland Side Trail at the BTC’s Akela & Scouters Heather & Ross Hamlin Nature Reserve at Riverside Woods will be closed for one day while herbicide is applied in the area. (This is a follow-up to similar closures of this area in August and October 2024.)

The herbicide is being used to control non-native invasive grasses and forbs in the open meadows in preparation for restoration of the site to tallgrass prairie. Restoration work on this property will be ongoing. It may include mowing, burning and/or additional herbicide application, prior to the planting and/or seeding of native plants. The preparation work may be visibly notable for some time before the new plants take hold.
