The Eric Best Side Trail on the BTC’s Smokey Hollow Nature Reserve in Waterdown will be closed for a few days while herbicide is applied in the area. (This is the follow-up to a similar closure of this area last July and September.)
The herbicide is being used to control non-native invasive grasses and forbs in a portion open meadow in preparation for restoration of the site to tallgrass prairie. Restoration work on this property will be ongoing. It may include tilling, mowing, and/or additional herbicide application, prior to the planting and/or seeding of native plants. The preparation work may be visibly notable for some time before the new plants take hold.
