Bruce Trail App Update

Now Available

An update of the Bruce Trail App is now available on the App Store or Google Play.

Android version 1.5.0

The latest Android update includes:

New Feature: “Report Trail Issue”
You can now send a note to our Trail maintenance crew directly from the app with a location and photo of any safety issue you encounter. It’s a new option in the Pin function.

Improvements
Copy the coordinates of any pin with a simple press.
Improved performance when BTC maps are downloaded and displayed.
Greater street and topographical detail on the default map layer.

Fixes
The map view no longer zooms out when you use other apps or close your screen.
Long lists of saved pins, routes, or hikes are now scrollable.
Distances in side trail descriptions have been corrected.

The Bruce Trail Conservancy would like to thank everyone who has downloaded the Bruce Trail App and who has provided constructive feedback.
We will continue to make updates and improvements to the features and functionality of the app based on user experiences and needs.

The New “Report Trail Issue” Feature

This new feature allows you to report an issue on the Trail directly to our Trail maintenance crew. Just follow these steps:

Go to the Explore page.
Use the pin function to drop a pin on the location of the issue.
Choose “Report Trail Issue”.
Select a category of trail issue and enter a description.
Take a photo or choose one from your photo library (optional).
Press “Send Report” to submit your report to the Trail maintenance team. You will see a notice pop-up saying that your report has successfully been submitted.

Please note that if you do not have access to the internet while on the Trail, you will not be able to report an issue in real-time. Instead, “Save Pin” to record the location and take a photo with your phone. When you are back online, open your Saved Pins (Main menu > Saved Pins, Routes & Hikes > Saved Pins) and open the pin you saved. From there you can “Report Trail Issue” and choose the photo from your library.

How to Update Your App

If you have downloaded the current Bruce Trail App* and have automatic updates set for all your apps, you don’t need to do anything to get the latest version.

If you don’t have automatic updates set, you can manually update your app.

Note: Trail changes are regularly updated in the Bruce Trail App and are separate from version updates to the app which are made for bug fixes, improvements, and new app features. You only need to open your Bruce Trail App when you have an internet connection to get the latest trail data. See the FAQ “How are Trail changes handled?” for more information.

*You cannot update from the discontinued Bruce Trail App (available 2014-2020). See “The Old Bruce Trail App” section of these FAQs for more details.
