Everyone’s invited to celebrate Bruce Trail Day, October 1!

Bruce Trail Day is an annual celebration of the incredible Bruce Trail and the wonders of the Niagara Escarpment, hosted by the Bruce Trail Conservancy at each of its Bruce Trail Clubs.

Join us for FREE guided hikes and family activities to help you explore the Bruce Trail and discover the amazing variety of life along the Niagara Escarpment. Come and learn about our year-round hiking programs, volunteer opportunities, and what we are doing to preserve a ribbon of wilderness in southern Ontario from Niagara to Tobermory.

Everyone is welcome! We invite nature lovers, hikers of all levels, and anyone wanting to venture onto the Bruce Trail for the first time, or the hundredth time, to join us.

This Bruce Trail Day we celebrate belonging and highlight that everyone of us belongs in this space, no matter our age, ability, race or ethnicity, gender identity or sexual orientation, or economic or social circumstances. #BruceTrailforAll

with the Niagara Bruce Trail Club

Join the Niagara Bruce Trail Club as we celebrate the Bruce Trail through different hikes that are accessible to all. Learn more about the Niagara Bruce Trail Club’s contribution to promote biodiversity throughout the Niagara area and all the different hikes that have been designed for all people with different abilities and interests.

Fitness Hike – Beginning at 9:00 a.m., Alan Laver will lead hikers who are looking for a personal challenge, through the Screaming Tunnel towards Fireman’s Park. The brisk pace is a perfect hike for people who want to improve their fitness, balance, and mental health within a supportive environment.

Welcome Hikes/ Bruce Trail for All –  Led by Angela Lytle, the leisurely Welcome Hikes celebrate the unifying and connecting power of nature and are perfect for those of us who want to walk, enjoy nature and the company of others.  These hikes begin at 11:00 a.m. and are a perfect opportunity to earn the “My First Hike” badge.

Hikers in Niagara

Bruce Trail Day
with the Iroquoia Bruce Trail Club

We’ll have a number of guided hikes leaving throughout the day lasting approximately 1 hour. No registration required. Children taking part in either the Children’s hikes or the General hikes, will earn the Autumn Junior Hiker Badge free of charge for Bruce Trail Day.

A reminder that these are not paved trails and so they are not suitable for strollers. We also ask that hikers please leave their pets at home.

Bruce Trail Day
with the Toronto Bruce Trail Club
Location 1: Limehouse

Guided hikes of varied lengths. Bruce Trail displays & slideshows. Kids activities, scavenger hunts and fun with nature apps!

Biodiversity Hike: This hike will be led by members of the TBTC Biodiversity team. It will be a nature walk through two of the Bruce Trail Conservancy properties. It will follow the main trail and some of the blue side trails. There is lots to see as the seasons change and the fall colours come into their beauty. The leaders will explain the iNaturalist app and how to identify plants and trees along the trail. We will meet at the Limehouse Community Centre (22nd Side Road and Fifth Line – Halton Hills)

No car? No problem! You can join our “Bus Hike”:

Bus Hike: Scotsdale Farm to Limehouse: We will start the hike just east of Scotsdale Farm (near Georgetown) and follow part of the Great Esker side trail to the new Trafalgar side trail. There will be two possible drop-out points — after 5 km and after 7 km. We will go through Limehouse Conservation Area and the “Hole in the Wall”. The hike will end at Limehouse where snacks will be available as part of Bruce Trail Day. But bring lunch and water. The bus fare is subsidized by the Toronto Club — It is the same for both members and non-members: $20 for adults, $10 for children. No charge for parking at Kipling Station. Current Toronto Bruce Trail Club members are welcome to join but are asked to wait until Sunday September 17th (two weeks prior to the hike) before registering so we can allow priority for non-members wishing to join the hike.

Location 2: Erindale Park, Mississauga

Come out and celebrate Bruce Trail Day in Mississauga with a beautiful walk high above the Credit River on University of Toronto (Mississauga) trails followed by an end to end of the attractive Sawmill Valley Trail. The hike will originate and finish at Erindale Park with a loop on each end.

The Credit River Valley is a significant feature of the Bruce Trail and the Credit Valley Footpath, an unfinished side trail that, once completed, will extend all the way to Port Credit. The river valley was a major trading route for native peoples as well as home and hunting grounds for the Mississaugas of the Credit.

The terrain is relatively easy without any major hills. We will be walking on a variety of dirt, packed gravel, and paved paths with some grass and boardwalks. Public washrooms available at Erindale Park only, but nature stops will be offered during the hike.

Location 3: Rosedale, Toronto

Join us to celebrate Bruce Trail Day with a hike on trails right in the heart of Toronto through the scenic Rosedale Ravines, Evergreen Brickworks, and Mount Pleasant Cemetery. This will be an opportunity to hear and learn about the Bruce Trail, the conservation work of the Bruce Trail Conservancy, and the Toronto Bruce Trail Club’s year-round hiking program.

Beginners and families are welcome on this Level 1 Hike. There will be a break at the Evergreen Brickworks for lunch and washrooms, before continuing on to the Moore Park Ravine. Bring lunch, water, and raingear (if applicable). Sturdy walking shoes or runners recommended.

Car Pool option from Collingwood: Meet behind Tim Hortons on First St., Collingwood at 8:45 am to car pool to Nottawasaga Bluffs.
Time: 9:30 am. Hikes leave trailhead at 10:00 am, and end between 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm depending on which hike you choose.

Please join us on Bruce Trail Day. This annual free event celebrates the efforts of the Bruce Trail Conservancy to ensure the preservation of a “ribbon of wilderness, for everyone, forever”. Representatives from the BTC and local Blue Mountain Club will be on hand to answer any questions you have, and let you know how you can get involved. Guided hikes will explore this beautiful section of the Bruce Trail and the remarkable geology and history of the area.

There will be two hike options. A shorter, relatively level, 3 km hike, and a longer 7 km hike. The shorter hike, led by Annette Sandberg, will take you to a beautiful lookout, and will include information on the geology of the Niagara Escarpment and local history. The longer hike will be led by Dr. Kelly-Leigh Thomas and Allison Thomas, and will circle through the bluffs, up through the Keyhole Pass, to the Lookout, and circle back on the Betty Carter Side Trail to your car.

Please wear weather appropriate clothing, comfortable footwear, and bring a water bottle.

We also ask that hikers please leave their pets at home.

Hike 1 – North to Griersville

Are you new to the Bruce Trail or just happy to come along for a friendly Beaver Valley hike? Join us in the Grey Road 40 BTC parking lot at 10:00 a.m. or 1pm to hike north through lovely autumn woods, including the Daphne and Gordon Nicholls Nature Reserve.

Hike 2 – South to Webwood (family-friendly)

Bring the kids and join us for a family friendly hike near Webwood Falls at 1:00 p.m., leaving from the Grey Road 40 BTC parking lot. There will be fun, on the trail activities for the young ones, not to mention viewing the beautiful little falls.

Bruce Trail Day

From this superb central greenspace in Owen Sound, the Sydenham Bruce Trail Club will lead guided hikes throughout the day, including smaller family-friendly hikes and a longer hike along the Pallisades Side Trail.

Family activities will include a Children’s Treasure Hunt: Families with kids, don’t miss this exciting adventure! Young explorers can embark on a quest to discover hidden treasures throughout the park.
