Over the past 50 years the Bruce Trail has been a source of inspiration, adventure, reflection and more, for those who have explored it. We’d like to see and hear how the Bruce Trail has affected you.

Thank you to all who shared your photo and a short caption in this year’s Photo Contest letting us know what the Bruce Trail means to you.

 

Contest Period:

April 3, 2017 (9:00 am EST) - May 1, 2017 (11:59 pm EST)

 

How to enter:

  1. Take a photo or choose one from your collection that depicts what you find special about the Bruce Trail.
  2. Write a brief caption describing how the photo reflects what the Bruce Trail means to you (maximum 150 words).
  3. Submit your photo and caption using our online entry form here by May 1, 2017
    Limit of ONE entry per person.    

 

Prizes

Ten contest winners will be featured in the summer 2017 issue of Bruce Trail Magazine and at our 50th Anniversary Celebration on June 10 in Tobermory.

One Grand Prize winner will also receive a BTC 50th Anniversary prize pack (including t-shirt, pin, mug and Bruce Trail Reference Guide - Edition 29).

BTC 50th Anniversary Photo Contest 2017 Rules & Regulations

Eligibility:

  • Contest is open to all – Bruce Trail members and non-members alike.
  • Limit of one entry per person.
  • Entries must include both a photo and a caption in order to be eligible.
  • Photos must be taken on or of the Bruce Trail.
  • Photos must not depict inappropriate or unsafe behavior. For your own safety and to protect the sensitive species and habitats along the Trail, please stay on the Bruce Trail at all times.
  • Photos must be the original work of the entrant.
  • Photos do not have to have been taken within the contest period. Older photos are eligible. Photos from any season are eligible.
  • Photos must be in digital JPG, PNG or GIF format. High-resolution scans of older prints or transparencies are acceptable as long as they are submitted in JPG, PNG or GIF format. Resolution should be high enough to accommodate a printed space of 9” x 9” at a resolution 300 dpi.
  • Minor digital enhancement is permitted, but photos that have been significantly modified or appear unnatural will be disqualified. Submissions may be watermarked if desired, but the watermark should be inconspicuous enough to not interfere with the judging of the photo. A watermark free version must be made available to judges by the photographer if asked in order to be eligible.

Prizes:

Ten (10) winning entries will appear inside the summer 2017 issue of Bruce Trail Magazine and on brucetrail.org and be on display at our 50th Anniversary Celebration on June 10, 2017 in Tobermory. One (1) of the ten winning entries will be the Grand Prize winner and will also receive a BTC 50th Anniversary Prize pack (including t-shirt, pin & Bruce Trail Reference Guide).

Judging:

After the close of the entry period, ten (10) winning entries will be chosen from all eligible submissions. Judging will be done by a panel of judges from The Bruce Trail Conservancy.

Photographs will be judged on photographic quality and visual impact; story/caption composition; and depiction of the Bruce Trail. The decisions of the judges are final and binding.

Winners will be notified by email by the Bruce Trail Conservancy.     

Use of Photographs:

All eligible entries will be displayed publicly in an online gallery at brucetrail.org during the Contest period (including the photo, caption, first name and last initial).

By entering the Contest, you grant The Bruce Trail Conservancy the non-exclusive right to publish, use, distribute, reproduce and publicly display your photograph, and to create derivative works from your photograph, in perpetuity, in any of its online, print or other media publications, materials or exhibitions, for purposes of promoting The Bruce Trail Conservancy's mission and awareness of its programs, including but not limited to editorial, advertising, publicity, and fundraising purposes, without payment of compensation unless prohibited by law. You grant The Bruce Trail Conservancy permission to provide your name when publishing, reproducing or otherwise using your photo and when identifying you as an entrant or prize winner in the Contest.

While The Bruce Trail Conservancy will make every effort to credit photographers when using photos, there may be circumstances where it is not possible to do so. Subject to the rights granted to The Bruce Trail Conservancy, you retain all other copyrights and rights to future use of the photographs you enter into the Contest.

Releases:

If your photograph includes an identifiable person or people, you must secure permission from each person (or in the case of a minor, the minor's parent or guardian) to use his/her image in the Contest, and for the photograph to be used in various promotional activities by The Bruce Trail Conservancy. The Bruce Trail Conservancy reserves the right to disqualify an entry if it finds, in its sole discretion, that an entrant has not secured a necessary release.

General Rules:

By entering this Contest, each entrant absolves The Bruce Trail Conservancy and their respective officers, directors, employees and their respective advertising and promotional agencies, agents, representatives, and contractors from any and all liability for any harm he/she may suffer as a result of participation in the Contest, compliance or non-compliance with these Contest rules and acceptance and use of the prize.

By entering this Contest, the winner authorizes The Bruce Trail Conservancy, and their respective advertising and/or promotional agencies and their respective representatives to use his/her name, and/or statements about the Contest and/or the prize for advertising purposes, and to do so without remuneration of any kind.

The Bruce Trail Conservancy is not liable for any entries which are lost, misdirected or late for any reason whatsoever or for: faulty computer components, software or links; the loss or non-existence of communications capability; faulty, incomplete, incomprehensible, or erased computer or network transmissions; any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, access providers, facilities or computer equipment or software; any failure of (or delay in) any e-mail or other electronic transmission to be received or sent by entrants or The Bruce Trail Conservancy that delay entry, result in disqualification or otherwise render an individual ineligible for this contest; or any combination of the foregoing.

The Bruce Trail Conservancy reserves the right to suspend, modify or terminate this Contest, including, without limitation, the selection of the winners, at its sole discretion, for any reason, including, without limitation, in the event a computer virus or bug, unauthorized human intervention, or any other occurrence beyond its control corrupts or adversely affects the administration, security, impartiality, or intended operation of this Contest.

This Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations.
