Hunting Season: Notice to Hikers

Deer hunting season (gun, rifle) is now open.

Due to the potential risks involved in hiking during the fall hunting season, the Bruce Trail Conservancy strongly advises that hiking in the Blue Mountains, Beaver Valley, Sydenham and Peninsula Club sections of the Bruce Trail be undertaken with caution during the following periods in 2012:
November 5 to 18
December 3 to 8

More detailed information about hunting in Ontario, including locations and dates, is available at:

Are there any statistics available to indicate just how much of a hazard that hunters have been in the past? I'm presuming notices like this are a precaution against an unlikely mishap - I can't recall any reports of wounded hikers!
