Enjoy this BTC Landmark Event with the Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club!

Help Us Unveil the Interpretative Sign that honours volunteering and one of the Bruce Trail Conservancy founders, Philip Gosling, BTC Honorary President!

Help Us Cut the Ribbons to Officially Open New Main Trail and Side Trails that will provide 14 km of continuous off-road walking along the main Trail in the Hockley area!

Walk with Philip and Susan Gosling along the new trails through 4.5 km of rolling hills, forest and meadow and celebrate our achievements with a picnic/barbecue!

When: 9:00 am Sunday Sept. 27th

Where: Park at the International Taoist Tai Chi Centre, 248305 5th Side Road, Mono, (just east of Airport Rd.) (BT Ref Guide Map 18)

What to Bring: water and snacks for the hike.  Hike leaders will guide you on a brief walk south from the Tai Chi Centre to the Unveiling of the Interpretative Sign on the Bruce Trail.

After the unveiling, we will then transport you a short distance to the initial ribbon cutting location for the new off-road section of main Trail. (This new section replaces walking on the 5th Line and the 5th Side Road of Mono Township.)

Shorter Hike Options:  After the ribbon cutting, two hike options are available:

  •  a 1 hour loop hike, including ribbon cutting for new Side Trails*, or
  • a 2 hour hike along new main Trail east and south to Hockley Crest Farm, arriving in time for the picnic/barbecue at 1:00 pm.

*after the 1 hour loop hike, transportation will be available to take these hikers back to Hockley Crest Farm for the picnic/barbecue.  Upon completion of the picnic/barbecue, around 2:30 pm, hike leaders will lead participants on a thirty minute hike back to their cars at the Tai Chi Centre.

Longest Hike Option: If you are interested in hiking for 4.5 hours as part of this event, then when you pre-register, please note Longest Hike Option and meet at 8:30 am at the 7th Line Parking Lot, (km 45.8 Map 18) (This option also includes the unveiling ceremony, transportation to ribbon cutting and enjoying the picnic/barbecue.)

Cost: $10 for adults and $8 for children.  (We hope to make a small profit that will be turned over to the Escarpment Legacy Campaign.)

Pre-Register: Cheques, payable to the Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club, must be received by September 21, 2009

When you pre-register, please provide an email address, if available, and indicate number of adult and child participants and your preferred hike option, i.e. 1 hour loop hike, 2 hour main trail hike or longest hike option.

**We need your co-operation in pre-registering so that we can arrange the hike leaders, transportation, food and refreshments!

Note: To make this important re-route possible, the Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club has enjoyed the support of volunteer trail builders from within the Club and from the 8 other Clubs along the Trail. Thank you to all!

Now we ask all builders/conservationists/hikers/family/friends to witness the final result and celebrate our joint volunteer effort!
